Election to the Sarai Pipal Thala ward of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation was cancelled after one of the candidates had died on Thursday. Samajwadi Party candidate Dinesh died at 7.45pm on Thursday after a cardiac arrest, report said. The ward, which was supposed to go to polls with the rest of Delhi's municipal corporations on Sunday, would now see a by-election on May 21, said a senior SEC official. This would be the second ward to have the election cancelled due to the death of a candidate. Recently, poll for Maujpur ward in East Delhi had been cancelled due to the death of a contestant. The by-election for Maujpur would be held on May 14. So, of the total 272 wards in Delhi, 270 would be going to polls on Sunday as per schedule.
